Because: the cake consists of three layers, from top to bottom, black, red and gold. A layer of chocolate dough forms the top layer, a layer of light dough forms the bottom – and in the middle is a layer of delicious red fruit jelly. The dessert with semolina was popular in the GDR and is still available in bags as a flour mixture. It forms the base of the cream filling of the Honecker cake.

Ingredients for Honecker Cake: This is what you need!
You will need: 12 tablespoons each of flour, milk and sugar, 3 eggs, 550 grams of butter, 1 packet of baking powder, 2 packets of vanilla sugar, 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 2 packets of red fruit jelly and sugar according to the instructions on the packet, 500 ml Water

Here’s how it works: mix 300 grams of butter with sugar and vanilla sugar. Add the eggs and slowly stir in the milk. Mix the flour and baking powder and gradually work this mixture into the flour. Divide the finished dough into two parts and stir the cocoa powder into one.

Heat the oven to 220 degrees above and below. Grease two baking pans or cake tins and fill them with the batter. Then bake the base of the cake for 15 to 20 minutes and let it cool. Until then, prepare the red fruit jelly according to the instructions on the package and cool it completely. Melt the rest of the butter – 250 grams – in a bowl and gradually mix in the red fruit jelly.
When the cake bases are made and cooled, spread the red fruit jelly cream on the light base. Then put it carefully on the dark floor. Cool the cake slightly to allow the buttercream to set, then decorate with chocolate or icing sugar as desired, cut into slices and serve. enjoy your meal!
