How to cook the national team’s favorite dish

During the Qatar World Cup, good nutrition is mandatory for the national team. All players love chef food.

The players of the German national football team have a common food choice – doner kebab pasta. Anton Schmaus, head chef of the national team, told Stern magazine that this is the dish that all the players love.

“The players like to get their hands on it, and I check the players’ carbohydrate intake,” explains Regensburg’s star chef, who has been cooking for the national team since 2017.

Schmaus describes the recipe for doner kebab pasta. For this you need the following ingredients:

  • Whole wheat pasta
  • Fresh spices

For a carb-rich meal, finely chopped lamb is topped with the classic doner kebab ingredients of cucumber, tomato, cabbage, red onion and yogurt sauce. According to the 41-year-old, everything is mixed with pasta and spices.

Otherwise, there were a variety of rich dishes in the menu. According to Schmaus, breakfast includes overnight oats, scrambled eggs, bircher muesli, smoothies and breakfast couscous.

At lunch and dinner, there is usually “a salad buffet, many soups, four main dishes with fish, meat, but pasta. Then many vegetables and carbohydrate foods, rice and potatoes in all forms. There are also small desserts. And many fruits.”
