Wetmar Kathryn Kahnemeyer is currently casting a mirror star for hobby artist Britt Stephens. Kleinberg doesn’t yet know what Valerie will do with the star. “I either hang the ornament in my window or give it away,” Kahnmeier says. The pensioner already has a full shopping bag: “There are so many good things here. I bought a lot.” And that doesn’t mean she’s the only one at Hof Bode in Wetmar on Sunday.

The joy of winter attracts many visitors again
The “Winter Fun” event was once again a magnet for many visitors over the weekend. There were no corona restrictions for the organizers Dirk Bode and his wife Birgit Bode-Sturing in the eleventh edition. Last year, the couple allowed a limited number of guests to enter the so-called special market, which charged €1 for entry. That is now a thing of the past.

On Sunday, twelve exhibitions presented high-quality handicrafts in the historic courtyard and in the hall in Bruchstra. Dirk Bode reports that “primarily there is creative potential from the village.” Most of the artisans and exhibitors have been coming for years. Also Sigrid Bierstedt, who previously made fruit bread, stolen poppy seeds, cinnamon cake in Aunt Rita’s recipe and chocolates. “I baked it a little bit – and it’s fun,” the 72-year-old said. Several years ago, Bodes noticed that the “Winterfreuden” Christmas bakery was missing. “And since then I’ve been closing the gap.”

The atmosphere at Hof Bode is just right.
Carmen Schultz-Boedeker was with us from the very beginning. Her measure is wool. The Kirchhurst native supplies hats, socks and scarves. The atmosphere at Hof Bode is just right. So far, she has been satisfied every year. You meet a lot of people. “The sales are as important as the talks,” says Schlues Boedecker. In addition, the exhibitions were spoiled by the Bode-Sturing couple. “We have a drink – and when everything is cleaned up at night, there is also a meal together,” said the hobby artist.
“Winter Delights” also donates to a good cause: each exhibitor donates cake, coffee and other hot drinks, while the proceeds from the sale go to the Handcart Cafe project in Hanover. Women in need since 2015.
